Our selection committee includes the following four highly accomplished life science executives. They work together, drawing on their diverse expertise and experiences, to select the award winners.

An emergency physician with a business degree from Rotman and a master’s in public health from Harvard, Dr. Lucas Chartier is passionate about building impactful teams and improving systems. As University Health Network (UHN)’s Vice President of Quality and Safety and Chief Patient Safety Officer, Lucas leads vital patient safety and quality improvement initiatives, including data-informed innovations focused on the patient experience, while mentoring health care colleagues to identify areas of improvement and challenge the status quo.

Lucas provided frontline care during COVID while spearheading regional and national pandemic response initiatives. As Toronto’s Lead for Emergency Medicine for Ontario Health Toronto, Lucas oversees the coordination of emergency services in the city to improve access and promote best practices. Lucas has published over 65 peer-reviewed journal articles, received over $1,250,000 in academic grant collaborations, and been invited to present his work at national and international conferences.
